De l'étude du comportement mécanique de sols hétérogènes modèles à son application au cas des sols naturels

Abstract : Coarse grained soils are caracterised by the presence of over sized particles in the material. The size of these elements can vary beetwen a fiew centimemeters and a meter. Because of the presence of these coarse elements in the soil, the mechanical characterization of it presents some difficulties. One of these is the choice of a representative elementary volume for testing. This work focus on a kind of coarse granular soils wich composed of coarse elements (inclusion) emdaded in a matrix soil. First, triaxial test have been executed on reference soils composed by a mixture of sand and different kind of inclusions (uniforme gravels, bend glass). This experimental study focus on the elastic properties, failure characteristics and volumic behaviour of mixtures. The results of these triaxial tests exhibit the inuence of the matrix properties, volumetric strain, proportion of inclusions, their morphological characteristics (size, roundness and roughness of surface) and the stress rate on the precited caracteristics. Then, based on these experimental results, we propose a method of characterization of reference soils mixtures. This method consists in a granulometric reconstitution. Furthermore, considering that these soils can be associated with heterogeneous materials, the method includes analytical expressions derived of homogenization technics. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a real coarse grained soil.
