Étude de couches dorées sur matières vitreuses : application aux tesselles à feuille d'or et aux céramiques glaçurées à décors de lustres dorés

Abstract : Metallic foil tesserae and "gilded" lustres (same color and metallic aspect as gold) are two decoration means that date back from the Antiquity. Today, these two kinds of products have a great renewed interest and the reproduction attempts are very numerous. The objective of this thesis work is first to analyse the physico-chemical properties of the gilded micrometric layer and these of the layer/vitreous materials system. A study is also conducted in numerical modeling, on the existence of defects caused by the tesserae forming process (pores, "elongated" voids in the interfacial regions and emergence of the metallic foil at free air). These defects are critical to preserve the long-term product integrity. This work requires the use of varied investigation methods in the material science: physico-chemical analysis of thin metallic films in insulating matrix materials (PIXE, RBS, TEM, SEM...), rheology of composites systems, numerical modeling of the behavior of such systems (Forge2), photo-spectrometry and colorimetry properties of surfaces.
