Ecoulements et transferts thermiques en convection naturelle dans les milieux macro-poreux alimentaires application aux refrigerateurs menagers

Abstract : In this work, the airflow and heat transfer by natural convection have been investigated in a stack of foodstuffs and particularly in domestic refrigerators. Both experimental and numerical approaches were conducted. Firstly, an experimental study was carried out using an ordered stack of spheres that was subjected to low air velocities (u<0.2 m s-1). The convective heat transfer coefficients between the objects and the air and between the wall of the cavity and the air were characterized according to the position and air velocity. The results showed that conduction and radiation effects between the objects and with the walls were of the same order of magnitude as convection. Measurements of the air velocity (using Particle Imaging Velocimetry) and temperature were made in an enclosure representing a domestic refrigerator model for various configurations (empty model, model loaded with stacking of inert products and model loaded with stacking of heat exchange products). A transient state behavior was observed at the bottom of the empty enclosure at a Rayleigh of 3´108. The presence of object stacks (even thermally inert) was shown to significantly modify the airflow and heat transfer characteristics. The numerical simulations using computational fluid dynamic software for various configurations (carried out for the model and real refrigerator) were shown to satisfactorily predict the experimental measurements.
