Allocation opportuniste de spectre pour les radios cognitives

Abstract : The demand for wireless technologies has constantly been increasing since a few years. However, several countries already suffer from radio « spectrum scarcity ». As a consequence, defining new rules of spectrum allocation and use is becoming of major importance. Several measurements campaigns have shown that the allocated spectrum is not used al the time and everywhere, giving rise to « spectrum holes ». In addition, new algorithms of spectrum allocation between users and radio systems are required. In this thesis, our objective is to propose innovative algorithms of dynamic spectrum allocation. The simulated scenarios are composed of several users (using cognitive radios : « intelligent » user equipments) negotiating their access to a shared radio resource made of several channels. We propose a new radio access algorithm operating at the mac layer, and achieving an uplink spectrum reservation for the users. This algorithm can be used for ofdm-based systems (e.g. : wlan networks). Following our algorithm (based on ofdma), the users collaborate to negotiate their radio access by using a distributed and collaborative contention-based mechanism. The algorithm uses an adaptation of the « swarm intelligence » meta-heuristic inspired from social insects. This method brings flexibility, robustness and scalability to spectrum allocation. Our results show the real potential of such collaborative and distributed methods to solve the problem of flexible spectrum allocation applied to the next generations of wireless systems.
