Control of processes with variable parameters

Julien Barraud
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis lies within the real time control of certain refining processes. We present the work completed on the monovariable control and the variable parameters management. The first part of the work was articulated around the study of an article published in 2003. We compared the monovariable control methods suggested in this article with other methods more commonly used. With an aim of improving the performances obtained with the tools tested, we developed an adaptive Smith predictor in whom the delay is updated starting from physical considerations of a hydrodesulfurization process. We are also interested in the open problem of a blender process control. The process comprises several dead volumes between the bases tanks and the mixer. We showed that it was possible to rebuild, by choosing an adapted estimator, the properties at exit of mixer. The method was put in and is used on a real blender. We also worked on the control of a pH neutralization process. The problem approach we had of is double. On a side, we worked directly on the process, other, we worked out a nonlinear model from which we set up a nonlinear control law. The used control law to stabilize the pH measured to the set point pH integrates the process non linearities what makes it possible to the user to change operating conditions without changing the tunings.
