Dehydration by greenhouse effect of a product packed in a water permeable polymeric film: experimental approach and modelling

Julio Rodriguez
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to study the physic of heat and mass transfers that occurs during the solar drying of a product packed in a particular polymeric film (only water molecules are able to cross such a film, by sorption-desorption phenomena). The purpose of this thesis is to offer a complete knowledge of this physic in order to be able to consider the dimensioning of a drying system using this type of films. The procedure of this study is, after a presentation of the general principles of usual solar driers, to use a experimental and modelling approach. A model is established at the process scale (packed product subjected to a solar radiation) and validated by using an experimental system specially designed and realised for this purpose (measurement cell placed under a solar simulator). It is then used, in a simplified version, in order to study a particular industrial application (a product, spreading out on a horizontal support, covered by the polymeric film). This model is useful to dimension any system using this type of films, for which energy losses not related to evaporation process have been first estimated.
