La diffusion des technologies: une approche par la professionnalisation. Le cas des technologies web.

Abstract : The diffusion of web technologies has an impact on the dynamics of occupations through the spurring of professionalization, and conversely, the dynamics of occupations – competitive ones in particular – have an influence on horizontal diffusion (adoption of tools by organizations) and vertical diffusion (adoption, assimilation and appropriation within the same organization) of web technologies. To characterize this phenomenon this paper examines the relationship between macro evolutions (development of new web-linked occupational groups, changes in web technologies) and micro ones (transformation of work practices, evolution of links between occupational groups). The concept of "organizational professionalization" – defined as the organization of a new activity through the structuration of occupational groups' roles – is used to analyse dynamics within firms. This paper is based on mixed-level research strategy using qualitative analysis (three case studies and one comparative study of French and American cases) and quantitative data (three questionnaires).
