Approche énergétique non locale du calcul de durée de vie de structures en fatigue multiaxiale sous chargements d'amplitude variable : application à une roue de train ferroviaire

Abstract : The objective of this study, carried out in collaboration with the Agence d'Essai Ferroviaire (AEF) of the SNCF, is to propose a fatigue life calculation method under complex loadings (variable amplitude multiaxial loadings) in high cycle fatigue. The first part of the document presents a critical analysis of various methods of the literature. The second part presents the experimental data base established for the identification and evaluation of the proposed method. This data base consists of tests on smooth specimens under a large range of stresses with an increasing complexity (the tests go from constant amplitude tension tests to variable amplitude combined out-of-phase bendingtorsion) but also on a scale 1 TGV wheel (tests carried out at AEF, under variable amplitude loadings inspired by service recordings). The continuation of the document presents a new fatigue life calculation method under variable amplitude multiaxial loadings. By using an energy based model and the " no damage " threshold concept defined during previous works carried out at the LAMEFIP, this proposal takes into account the effect, over the fatigue life, of the stresses distribution in the part. Based on an incremental definition of the deformation work given to the material, this proposal is free from any cycle counting method and is ready to assess the fatigue life of a structure subjected to any multiaxial variable amplitude loadings. The predictions of this method are compared with various tests results of literature, in particular obtained on notched specimens, and with the experimental results of the study. Finally, the proposal is applied to an industrial case: the fatigue strength prediction of a high-speed train wheel under constant amplitude or blocks loadings. The predictions of the method, applied as post-processor finite elements results on the wheel, are in good agreement with the test results.
