Simulation numérique du tremblement transsonique et optimisation de formes

Abstract : Since transonic buffet limits the flight envelope of aircrafts, its cost-effective prediction and control are of crucial interest for industrials. Therefore, it is proposed in this work first to enhance the computation of unsteady transonic flows typical of buffet and next to assess a way to control this phenomenon. The present study includes a state of the art on transonic buffet, a description of the methods used as well as a description of the validation work conducted. Taking into account the limits of classical statistical turbulence models, socalled hybrid turbulence models (PANS and DES) are then assessed for the computation of transonic buffet over supercritical airfoils; these models allow to numerically reproduce with a good accuracy the physical features experimentally observed. Eventually, an original shape optimization procedure is proposed to reduce the level or push back the onset of transonic buffet over airfoil sections. The choice of the computed cases (classical or supercritical airfoils) and of a multi-objective approach allow to build an efficient and systematic methodology to obtain shapes that yield improved performances with respect to transonic buffet.
