Abstract : Forest research and management require to predict the evolution of forest stands, particularly in term of wood production and quality. This prediction is done by simulation with growth model from an initial state. In terms of growth modelling for heterogeneous forest stands, it seems appropriate to use Individual-Based Models. Such models simulate the evolution of each individual tree according to its particular characteristics and its local environment. Unfortunately, this kind of model cannot easily be used because an initial state with the description and the location of each tree must be provided in order to run simulations. Such data are not commonly available. Consequently, forest researchers use virtual stands as initial state. It appears very important that those virtual stands be realistic. The aim of my PhD work is to build realistic models of spatial structure that can be used to simulate realistic virtual stands. This work is applied on mixed stands sessile oak - Scots pine of the Orleans forest. For that purpose, we characterized precisely the spatial structure of our real stands. We synthesised the variety of identified spatial arrangement in a typology of oak-pine mixed stands based on spatial structure. We highlighted 5 spatial types for canopy trees and 3 spatial types for understorey trees. In a second step, we used point processes to model the structure of the identified spatial types.
