Les oxoborates non linéaires Gd1-xRxCa4O(BO3)3, R = (Lu, Sc, Nd) : croissance cristalline et propriétés optiques

Abstract : The aim of this work is to study new oxyborates compounds from the GdCOB (GdCa4O(BO3)3) family. The non - linear compounds Gd1-xRxCa4O(BO3)3 (R = Sc, Lu) have been studied in order to investigate their crystal growth and to adjust the wavelengths in non critical phase matching (NCPM) by shifting the compositional parameter x. We made the choice to exploit this variety of compositions to achieve the frequency conversion in NCPM conditions (at ambient temperature) of the specific wavelengths in the spectral range 800 - 950 nm and also of the emission wavelengths of the Nd3+ ions doped in these compounds. Gd1-xRxCa4O(BO3)3 crystals were growth by the Czochralski method and single crystals with large size and good optical quality were obtained. The non-linear properties of the grown crystals were characterized and measurements of the intra-cavity second harmonic generation (SHG) of a continuous wave titanium sapphire laser, in NCMP along Y axis of the crystals, were also made. The Nd3+ ions have been inserted in the Gd1-xRxCa4O(BO3)3 matrixes and single crystals were elaborated. The study of the optical properties of these materials leads to demonstrate the laser effect at 1061 nm under titanium sapphire pumping. For propagation along the Z axis of the crystals, the laser emissions polarized parallel to the Y axis have been obtained. Finally, in order to generate a blue laser emission, we examined the possibility to achieve the self frequency doubling (SFD) in NCPM of the infrared laser emission at 936nm of the neodymium doped Gd1-xRxCa4O(BO3)3 crystals.
