Modélisation et caractérisation des matériaux magnétiques composites doux utilisés dans les machines électriques

Abstract : Soft magnetic composite materials are used to produce magnetic circuits in electrical machines. They are made of iron particles coated with a thin dielectric layer pressed to high densities. Electrical machine design using soft magnetic composites requires techniques for measuring their electrical and magnetic properties. The optimization of soft magnetic materials properties requires understanding the microscopic scale magnetization phenomenon, as well as its influence on macroscopic properties. Measurement methods for magnetization, resistivity and magnetic losses, which are adapted to soft magnetic materials, are developed in this thesis. These methods show that materials inhomogeneity and anisotropy, which were until then considered negligible in published work, are sufficiently important to influence materials development, machine design and quality tests. Modeling of magnetization relates microscopic scale magnetization phenomenon to global magnetic properties, such as the effect of dielectric coating thickness on magnetic permeability. A model is developed that relates material properties to its structure and composition. Based on finite elements simulation of magnetic flux flow into the material structure, this model allows for finding the material's global magnetization curve. Relations between process parameters and magnetic properties show strong coupling between microscopic structure and properties. An example of that coupling is the effect of dielectric coating thickness on magnetic permeability. The proposed measurement methods and magnetization models can be used for the optimization of machine dimensions, and for the optimization of materials properties designed for specific applications.
