Planification de réseaux WDM translucides avec qualité de transmission garantie

Abstract : Routing and wavelength assignment in all-optical WDM networks has been deeply investigated in the literature. Most studies neglect the impact of transmission impairments on the feasibility of all-optical connections. Actually, the optical signal undergoes along its route various transmission impairments, namely the linear and non-linear effects. In fully opaque WDM networks, the quality of transmission is always considered as acceptable since electrical regeneration is performed systematically at each switching node. However, providing electrical regeneration at each node is still very expensive and prevent any flexibility in terms of network capacity. One solution is to provide regeneration capabilities at intermediate nodes, only when it is necessary. Such networks are referred to translucent WDM networks. In this thesis, we deal with the problem of translucent networks planning while guaranteeing a certain quality of transmission. In this context, we propose an original dimensioning tool called LERP (Lightpath Establishment and Regenerator Placement). LERP aims to provide a routing and wavelength assignment solution that optimizes the network resources utilization and guarantees a predefined quality of transmission. The signal quality is ensured by means of 3R electrical regenerators used at intermediate nodes when it is necessary to improve the signal budget. The signal quality is evaluated through Q factor which is computed by means of another tool we have developped: BER-Predictor. This tool takes into account four main transmission impairments, namely chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, nonlinear phase shift, and amplified spontaneous emission.
