Calorimétrie semi-digitale auprès d'un collisionneur linéaire : étude d'une électronique d'acquisition, de compression et de transfert des données

Abstract : This PhD thesis work presents the development of electronics for the read out and processing of signals coming out from a semi-digital calorimeter in the framework of a wide detectors research and development program for a linear collider. It has been shown that cells of a size near centimeter associated to an electronics having 2 or 3 thresholds seem to be sufficient for reaching the energy resolution wished for foreseen physics studies. This is the principle of semi-digital calorimetry. This leads to a number of acquisition channels of 38 millions, with electronics located within the detector. After having a specification established, an adequate prototype and its implementation are presented. The prototype includes a quite special electronic board, because it is part of the detection cell. It makes use of an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), and of a programmable device, which reads out the ASICs and manages the interface with a computer through USB. All the tests and measured performances of this prototype are presented. This prototype has worked well in tests with cosmic particles and particle beams. Preliminary results of the various data taken are presented.
