Effect of lactoferrin, probiotics and SM3 (milk extract enriched in sphingolipides) on immune function in mice

Abstract : Specific foods and ingredients improve disease resistance and general health status. The identification of such components within these food products increases and focuses large interests from agriculture and food industries. The aim of this work was to characterize the effects induced by the consumption of lactoferrine, two probiotic bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM® and Bifidobacterium animalis Bb12®) and SM3® on the intestinal immune system of BALB/c mice at the local and the peripheral level. Ingredients were incorprated in diets either in combination or alone.
