Applications de l'analyse fractale dans le cas de ruptures dynamiques

Abstract : The work contains an original modality of approach of fractals objects, as well, from the mathematical point of view, as the physical one. By this rigorous study, the concepts of fractal and fractal dimension have been correctly defined. Therefore, from the analysis of the comparative study of the methods of calculating of the fractal dimension in the case of fracture surfaces, one will notice the fact that the most efficient methods are: the Box Counting method, the Variations method and the Hurst exponent. By beginning with the traditional method of the islands (Slit Island), the applications of the interferometry on the determination of the fractal dimension of the fracture surfaces in the case of the Charpy specimens for the hardened steel XC 65 and stainless steel 316L have been organized. This new method can better characterize the topography of the fracture surface measured in interferometry using fractal dimension. To accomplish the data processing obtained following the analysis of the state of surfaces of the specimens based on interferometry, the development of a software (Mesrug) which allows a statistical processing of a complexes database have been necessary. This software used initially in France and created by Pr.Maxence Bigerelle, was developed and reactualized for the calculation of the roughness parameters of the fracture section for the Charpy specimens. Our researches showed that fracture energy by only one shock varies in a way inversely proportional with fractal dimension. This observation constitutes an important contribution of the work.
