Étude sur modèle physique des mécanismes de transfert de charge dans les sols renforcés par inclusions rigides. Application au dimensionnement

Abstract : The technique of reinforcement of soft soils by rigid piles has been developed in the 70s, but the application of this technique has been developed in France for a dozen years. Within the framework of the National Project ASIRI, the aim of this thesis is to study the mechanisms of load transfer occurring in the granular layer, whose function is to transfer the load from the structure to the network of rigid piles, thus reducing the settlement of soft soil. We have developed an axisymmetric physical model, at the scale 1/5e, instrumented to better understand these mechanisms. An experimental program has been carried out to quantify the influence of parameters representative of the problem: area ratio, rheological properties and thickness of the granular layer and the soft soil used. The results are used to highlight the significant influence of rheological properties of the granular, its relative thickness and area ratio on the coefficient of efficiency obtained and the average settlement of soft soil. The experimental results obtained on the physical model are then compared with those resulting from different analytical methods. A comparison is also made with results of tests at scale 1 and with the results of tests in a centrifuge, which have also been performed within the National Project A.S.I.RI. Finally, we present the results of numerical modelling of the physical model tests, conducted using Plaxis software. The numerical results are compared with experimental results allowing making a joint validation of the physical model and numerical model.
