Maquettes numériques spatio-temporelles d'édifices patrimoniaux. Modélisation de la dimension temporelle et multi-restitutions d'édifices

Abstract : Nowadays most digital reconstructions in cultural heritage describe building heritage as a whole of static and unchangeable entities. However, historical sites can have a rich and complex history, sometimes full of evolutions, sometimes only partially known by means of documentary sources. Three significant aspects condition the analysis and the interpretation of cultural heritage. Firstly, buildings can undergo significant transformations or they can disappear over time. Secondly, uncertainty is prevalent in cultural heritage in various forms: sometimes it is impossible to define the dating period, sometimes the building original shape or its spatial position. Thirdly, historical documentation concerning past states can be heterogeneous, dubious, incomplete and even contradictory. This thesis proposes an integrated modeling approach capable firstly of structuring spatial elements according to time, secondly of retaining the history of architectural evolutions, thirdly of taking into account assumptions about historical sites. As geometry is not sufficient to understand historical site transformations, a graph visualization framework is integrated to manipulate geometries and to understand building transformations and their relations.
