Intégration d'une pompe à chaleur dans un procédé agroalimentaire : simulation, expérimentation et intégration

Abstract : Energy and environmental contexts will impose long term efforts in energy efficiency in industry. Heat pumps for high-temperature applications and industrial use have often been neglected though many opportunities exist for recovering the waste heat generated by industrial processes. A laboratory industrial scale heat recovery system including a heat pump is designed and built to carry out experimental simulations by reproducing the operating conditions of real case applications in food industries. The system operates using pinch analysis principle. Several typical scenarios for low- temperature heat recovery and heat upgrading are experimentally simulated. First and second law of thermodynamics are applied to experimental results and show that improving heat pump performance is a major challenge to increase its efficiency and profitability. A detailed numerical model of shell and U-tube evaporators with a generic flow arrangement is developed and experimentally validated. A new method of intermediate complexity level is developed to model these types of evaporators: distributed parameter model using Modelica language. This level of complexity is necessary to simulate accurately the zeotropic refrigerant mixtures evaporation. An overall liquid-to-liquid industrial heat pump model is developed including the evaporator model. Numerical simulations in a typical industrial scenario with zeotropic mixtures, original and modified condensers, and flow arrangement of evaporators are performed. Results showed that it would be possible to improve the performance significantly with zeotropic mixtures if the heat pump heat exchangers had counter-flow arrangement.
