Modélisation des instabilités en mécanique des roches : application à l'exploitation de la concession de Drouville

Abstract : This work presents a new method to predict the formation of sinkholes over excessively exploited mine sites. The developed approach has been applied on the Drouville mining lease of the French Compagnie des Salins du Midi et des Salines de l'Est -Cooperation.
The deposit has been mined using the hydraulic fracturing method in order to obtain connexions between the cavities. An uncontrolled development of the dissolution process lead to the junction of two neighbouring cavities forming a large cavern (SG4/5), and which had purposely been brought to a collapse for security reasons
. The backanalysis of this event initiated the research presented in this work. Its final objectives was the development of a secure mining method while extracting the largest possible part of the deposit without any risk of later ground movements.
In order to meet our objectives, we made extensive use of Finite Element Method ( F. E. M.) to resolve the mechanical problem.
The model integrates rheological laws describing the characteristics of the encountered materials. Some parameters were obtained using the method of direct back-analysis (method of error minimization).
By applying the model to two-and three-dimensional simulations, we could identify strong plastic and ruptur zones in the (simulated) rock mass. We were also able to anticipate the réaction of the failed rock mass during the creation of the sinkhole.
In using the technique together with a detailed analysis of the rock mass behaviour, a new intensive mining method with progressive enlargement of the sinkhole has been proposed.
