Cinétique de mélange des enrobés recyclés et influence sur les performances mécaniques

Abstract : Leading actors in civil engineering engage technical researches on sustainable development in order to reduce raw material and energy consumption in hot mix asphalt production. Increasing the reuse of road demolition products (RAP - Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) is a major way to meet full recycling capacity in road construction field. Concomitance of recycling increase and asphalt production temperature lowering cuts back on the use of virgin materials and energy. Nevertheless, these techniques involve questions about asphalt concrete so-produced. A bibliographic research indicates the need to understand how RAP and virgin added materials are blended during the mixing process. It's important to know what level of blending is reached and its influence on asphalt mix performances and durability. In order to answer this question, a microscopic observation technique has been developed, which allows the identification of head laboratory parameters (duration and temperature of the mixing) and the understanding of the way the mixing is occurring. Reclaimed asphalt concrete mechanical performances are supposed to be highly influenced by these parameters. In conjunction with the increase of the recycling rate, the outcome of duration and temperature of the mixing is estimated through usual mechanicals tests. At the same time, an experimental test measuring the mixing level in the reclaimed asphalt has been built. The results will enable a control of recycling process and an adjustment as appropriate of added materials in order to reach technical mastery and development of high rate asphalt recycling process.
