Modélisation mathématique de l'évolution de la topographie des couches successives des surfaces peintes destinées au secteur automobile

Abstract : The visual appearance of the painted steel sheets that are constitutive of a car's body, is a prominent factor in the appreciation of the quality of the car. Characterising the link between this appearance and the rough topography of the flat carbon steel used in this context, is of a crucial importance for the industry and remains a serious scientific challenge. In this thesis, a detailed investigation of this matter is achieved through a series of experiments. We also introduce our own methods and software that make it possible for us to apprehend serenely the exhaustive set of data that has been gathered, especially by defining automatic techniques for the correction of the surface's form. Thanks to this work, we define the first models for the prediction of the topographic evolutions undergone by the steel sheets through the paint process. We also review the various optical models that will make it possible to render the painted appearance of these sheets.
