Détermination du rayonnement solaire à l'aide d'images satellitaires

Abstract : This study has been developed within the Heliosat Project of Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris. The goals of this project are: (i) to design a system for the estimation of incident solar radiation at ground level from images of the Earth acquired by geostationary satellites; (ii) to produce detailed maps of the spatial distribution of the global solar radiation; and (iii) to improve the system in relation with the results and progress in science. The original model of Cano (1982) has been improved and completed based on the following theorical studies: (i) calculation of the monthly mean of the daily sum of solar global radiation; (ii) use of the system for any geographical area located in the field of view of the satellite sensor; (iii) relationships between the global atmospheric transmittance and the cloud index; (iv) estimation of both diffuse and beam parts of the global radiation. The method has been tested over 30 months of satellite data (12 months in 1983, 11 months in 1984 and 7 months in 1985). The errors in the reconstruction of both of global and diffuse parts of the instantaneous hourly global radiation are respectively 70 and 99 Wh/m2. In order to provide automatically maps of solar global radiation, planetary albedo and cloud index, an operational tool has been put together. It is composed of a PC compatible computer connected to a satellite receiving station and an appropriate software. The software package has been implemented according to the developed method.
