Définition d'une méthodologie de détection de phénomènes dynamiques dans une chronique d'images et son application à quelques études

Abstract : Time series images are used to display dynamic phenomena. Three applications have been approached in an operational way and they have resulted in the definition of a general method consisting in the following steps: 1) processing for the geometrical coincidence of the images, 2) processing of the images to have normalized radiances, 3) specific filtering which take into account the spatial or temporal nature of the studied phenomenon. Before automatic processing or comparison, images representing the same scene must geometrically coincide. For that, some methods using correlation processing between images were built and compared. Images also need normalization of their radiances to correct temporal variations. Two normalization methods were used; the first by coding adjustment of the values, the second by modelling the temporal radiance evolution at each point. The first study concerned detection and tracing meteorological phenomena on Earth images provided by meteorological satellites, and displayed on color screen. We have developed an animation method to help meteorological forecasting. Whereas the object of the first study was following clouds, the goal of the second is the construction of a map without cloud, by an adaptative and iterative filtering process, to obtain an image of the ground under clear sky. The third study concerned the rapid detection of the smoke of forest fires. Our case studies permitted the definition of the spatial and temporal characteristics of the smoke, which give criteria for the forest fire detection.
