Contrôle et mise en forme des fronts de phase et d'énergie d'impulsions brèves ultra-intenses

Abstract : This thesis deals with the control of wave front and energy front of ultra-intense short laser pulses.
The first part is dedicated to the conception and realization of an adaptive optics loop for wave front distortions corrections of the 100 TW laser chain of the Laboratoire pour l'Utilisation des Lasers Intenses.
This loop is based on the association of a liquid crystal device used as a phase modulator, and a shearing interferometer as wave front sensor. The combination of these two devices allowed the building of an innovative system for measuring and controlling the phase of ultra-intense laser pulses. This loop is shown to allow the correction of wave fronts exhibiting significant distortions. The focusing quality of laser beam can then be greatly improved. This technique was successfully tested on the 100 TW laser chain and a wave front correction of the order of 60% was demonstrated.
The second part of the thesis deals with the generation of an inhomogeneous laser pulse for X-ray laser pumping - the gain medium being a plasma. The principle is based on the misalignment of the parallel gratings compressor used at the end of the 100 TW CPA chain. A model describing the generation of an inhomogeneous short pulse with this device is developed. A X-ray Laser experimental campaign allowed the validation of theoretical results predicted by the model. It also revealed the necessity of using such an inhomogeneous pulse in order to observe an X-ray emission when the pumping of the gain medium is achieved with a short pulse.
