Simulation numérique de l'usinage par outil coupant à l'échelle macroscopique : contribution à la définition géométrique de la surface usinée

Abstract : The idea to set a relatively general simulator of the mechanical part of machining has given its origin to this work. Two theses, done at LMSP, have faced problems with the intersection algorithm which is necessary to obtain the machined surface. The main aim of this work was to re-think the method used to calculate the intersection between the B-Rep model of the tool and the B-Rep model of the workpiece.
The first purpose was to study a simple case: orthogonal cutting. This has enabled us to check the validity of our approach again and to start the analysis of intersection algorithms with a simplified case. A specific simulator was made and comparisons with experimental results are shown.
The second purpose was to improve the intersection algorithm in the three-dimensional case by modifying the point of views taken in previous works at LMSP. The intersection process is now made in a reference (material) frame of the workpiece. This, combined with an analysis authorizing self-intersection of a B-Rep model, increases the general robustness of the algorithm. The programs corresponding to this work have been implemented in Nessy (Network Solver System) from our laboratory LMSP.
