La réalité sans représentation, la théorie de l'énaction et sa légitimité épistémologique

Abstract : This study presents a conceptual and epistemological critique of the representational conception of the knowledge of reality, whether as result of a cognitive or scientific process. It sets out the reasons for dissatisfaction with this kind of conception with regard to the ordinary use of the concepts of 'knowledge' and 'reality'. And it shows the possibility of a cognitive theory and an epistemology which take into account the phenomenal and pragmatic experience tied to this ordinary use. This cognitive theory, theory of enaction, defends the idea of a historical co-constitution of the subject and the object of knowledge stemming from a sensori-motor interaction between a living system and its environment. Furthermore, this theory leads to a new way to approach the mind-body problem based on a practice, called neurophenomenology, which aims to articulate both phenomenal and objective discourse, uttered in first and third person respectively.
To legitimate the 'theory of enaction', one must appeal to a non-representationalist epistemology which also claims a genuine historicity for a co-constitution process of the subject and the object of knowledge. This epistemology sets down a distinction between the 'doing' of the scientific practice and the 'saying' of the knowledge of reality which takes the concept of reality out of the metaphysical space of causality to relocate it in the logical space of justification. This is an epistemology based on the notions of 'plurality of alliances' and 'opening of new practices' locating scientific knowledge in the midst of a changing web made of various actors involved in different ways in the organization of communal life.
