Spectroscopie Raman et Rayleigh stimulie d'atomes refroidis par laser : dynamique des mélasses optiques unidimensionnelles

Abstract : Stimulated Raman and Rayleigh spectroscopy of laser-cooled neutral atoms provides much information about optical molasses. We interpret the transmission and phase-conjugation spectra observed in the one-dimensional lin+lin and σ^+ -σ^- laser configurations. In the first case, the stimulated Raman resonances demonstrate the occurrence of localization and quantization of atomic motion in the potential wells created by the laser light. The stimulated Rayleigh resonances give information about the dynamics and the antiferromagnetic spatial order of the atoms in the molasses. In the second case, the Raman structures prove the existence of differently populated and light-shifted ground-state sub-levels. The Rayleigh resonance gives a direct experimental access to the friction coefficient of the cooling force.
