Abstract : This thesis deals with the realization of a Bose-Einstein condensation set-up combined with optical tweezers allowing the transport of the condensate. This set-up aims at separating the place where the condensate is produced from the zone of its study. In that second zone, we plan to do atom interferometry experiments where coherent matter waves would be guided using optical structures generated by the optical tweezers.
Many efforts have been devoted to the realization of the optical apparatus needed for laser cooling and to the generation of magnetic fields in order to obtain a coherent atom cloud of high stability. At this aim, an original hybrid electromagnet which consists in the combination of a ferromagnetic structure generating a quadrupolar field with ordinary coils producing a dipolar field has been developed. It provides simultaneously the strong magnetic gradients required for efficient radio-frequency evaporation and an easy control of the remnant field associated to the use of ferromagnetic materials. At the end of the evaporative cooling, we typically obtain 5.10^5 condensed atoms at a temperature of 300 nK.
The implementation of the optical tweezers superimposed to the condensation set-up has required the development of an original tehnique of alignment since direct imaging was revealed to be impossible. Finally, we managed to transfer 2.10^5 atoms at 1 µK in the tweezers and the displacement profile of the tweezers for the transport has been studied.
