Influence de la microstructure sur le comportement tribologique de dépôts composites projetés plasma

Abstract : Due to their processing, the microstructure of coatings achieved by plasma spraying is intricate. To optimize the tribological behaviour of plasma-sprayed composite coatings, relationships between microstructure and tribological properties had to be established.
Coatings exhibiting different microstructures were obtained using two processes, i.e. a coupled spraying mode, High-Pressure Plasma Spraying (HPPS) and Reactive Plasma Spraying (RPS), and Co-spraying. Various parameters were studied: sprayed metallic powders (titanium or copper alloys), ceramic particle addition, spraying mode and spraying conditions for every process. A local approach to mechanical characteristics of the various phases in the sprayed composite coatings was also developed using nanoindentation.
Dry sliding “pin-on-disc” testing of two specimens for both spraying processes was carried out. From this testing, the influence of major microstructural features of these composite coatings on wear/friction mechanisms could be determined. Microscopic observation and quantitative analysis of the tested specimens led to the identification of wear mechanisms common to these two types of plasma-sprayed composite coatings. The influence of coating microstructure on tribological properties was especially studied.
