Modélisation numérique de la mise en forme et de la tenue mécanique des assemblages par déformation plastique : application au rivetage auto-poinçonneur

Abstract : The thesis deals with the numerical modelling of process and mechanical strength of joining by deformation with self-piercing riveting as main application. The first step was to develop a material model. This model needed to represent all the phenomena which appeared during the riveting process or during the mechanical testing of the joint. We have opted for damaged elastic-plastic behaviour. The damage law is based on the model of Lemaitre and its strain equivalence principle. We have improved this damage model to take into account the crack closure effect and a lower limit of triaxiality under which the damage cannot evolve. This material model was implemented in the finite element software Forge2005®. No local damage models were used to prescribe the damage localization effect. In a second step, the characterisation of hardening and damage law parameters was performed using an inverse method based on an evolutionary algorithm coupled with a meta-model. All the specific experimental tests were presented with accuracy. Finally, computations of self-piercing riveting process and computations of mechanical test on a riveted joint were achieved with the developed numerical model. For this last part, an ARCAN type device was developed to apply shear, tensile and mixed solicitations on the riveted samples. Numerical results were compared with the experimental ones and shown good agreements. As shown in the last part of this thesis, the developed numerical model was able to model all the joining by deformation technologies and it may be use like an optimization tool.
