Caractérisation et modélisation des distorsions en tournage de pièces minces en Inconel 718

Abstract : When machining a thin workpiece, distortions may arise, during finishing operations, due to various phenomena. These phenomena are not yet considered to determine tool trajectories. Therefore, an expensive iterative approach is used to manufacture certain high-added value aeronautic parts. This research work is part of a project aiming at improving the machining process simulation by taking these phenomena into account.The case study is the finish turning of thin Inconel 718 workpieces using a coated carbide profiling tool. The surface integrity and cutting forces evolution are characterized and modelled during tool life. Cutting forces are modeled considering tool wear effect. Then, an experimental methodology allows demonstrating the significant effect of machining-induced residual stresses on distortion. Finally, modelling and compensating strategies are developed to deal with the undercut related to workpiece elastic deformation under cutting forces.
