Dimensionnement à l’effort tranchant des éléments de structure en béton armé en présence d’un effort axial de traction-compression

Abstract : The present work deals with design methods for reinforced concrete (RC) elements subjected to a transverse load, combined with an axial load and a bending moment both applied at their ends. Using these methods, the shear strength of RC elements can be estimated taking into account the influence of axial tension and compression, as well as the applied bending moment. For that purpose, several semi-analytical methods were proposed based on the kinematic approach of the yield design theory. Using different virtual failure mechanisms, this approach makes it possible to compute upper estimations of the ultimate loads, and consequently the resistance domain, of the studied structure. In order to consider a larger field of virtual failure mechanisms, the kinematic approach was implemented numerically by means of a finite element method.Besides, two experimental campaigns were performed on RC beams, with and without shear reinforcements, subjected to the same combination of loadings considered in the proposed semi-analytical and numerical methods. The analysis of the results made it possible to identify the influence of the applied loads on the shear strength of RC elements. In addition, the use of Digital Image Correlation technique provided important information on the evolution of the cracking of the beams. Moreover, the comparison of the experimental results with the predictions of some design codes allowed to evaluate their accuracy in the shear design of RC elements subjected to such loading configuration.Finally, the proposed design methods were compared to the experimental results of these two campaigns, as well as to the results of some tests available in the literature. The methods were also confronted to the predictions of some analytical methods proposed by other researchers on the basis of an upper-bound approach as well, in addition to the numerical estimations of a finite-element commercial software based also on this method.
