Analyse numérique de l'étalabilité d'une poudre métallique : Application au procédé de fabrication additive Laser Beam Melting

Abstract : The powder bed laser melting process is an additive manufacturing process where each layer is produced by a powder spreading phase and a lasering phase. To develop the process further, it is necessary to be able to produce parts of better quality, faster and in larger quantities. For this purpose, process parameters such as the spreader speed or the layer thickness can be adjusted to reduce the production time or the final part quality. The powder bed must be of good quality to have a good lasering phase. A numerical model was developed to simulate the powder spreading process and better understand the effect of process parameters on the powder bed quality. To perform a representative simulation of the real behavior of the grains, it is necessary to be able to identify the value of the material parameters of the powder, in particular the adhesion. This is why a protocol for characterizing the adhesion energy of a powder sample has been developed. It is based on the comparison between an experimental test and an equivalent simulation. Finally, a method for characterizing the quality of the powder bed based on the calculation of the thermal diffusivity was developed to analyze the results of parametric analyses. The analysis of the effect of the process parameters on the powder bed quality allowed to show that, unlike the current rules, a low standard deviation of the particle size distribution allows to obtain a better powder bed for such small layer thicknesses.
