Films et revêtements de particules adhésifs pour la chirurgie

Abstract : Fixation of polymer films to biological tissues is a major challenge for the development of new implantable technologies or surgical approaches. Here, we study an approach to adhesion using the adsorption of macromolecules on the surface of particles placed at the interface between a film and a biological tissue. For that, we developed a synthesis method based on photo-cross-linking to make soft polymer films having adjustable viscoelastic properties. We coated those films with particles of different nature (silica, hydroxyapatite, bioactive glass). First, their adhesive performances and the underlying microscopic mechanisms were characterized by ex vivo peeling experiments on pig liver coupled with microscopy observations. Secondly, the clinical relevance of optimized systems was evaluated in vivo on an animal model. In particular, we implemented a technique for quantifying the adhesion energy in vivo by 90° peeling tests and studied the impact of tissue hydration on adhesion. We also took advantage of the procoagulant properties of a silica coating to reinforce adhesion by forming a blood clot at the interface.
