Conception of a tool for measure and reduction of the quality costs: case of the piloting of industrial processes

Abstract : The competitiveness imposes a big challenge to companies: to have a rigorous management by eliminating all types of wasting. Among the causes of wasting and thus not competitiveness, there are the quality costs. Quality costs are the costs associated with preventing, finding, and correcting defective work. These costs are huge, running at 20% - 40% of sales. Many of these costs can be significantly reduced or completely avoided. One of the key functions of a Quality Engineer is the reduction of the total cost of quality associated with a product. The reduction of these costs is one of the strategic axes of any company. To reduce effectively these costs, it is indispensable to begin at first with their identification and evaluation, because the normal accounting system does not measure these costs. Indeed the traditional systems which calculate the costs by product do not allow determining the economic effect of the improvements introduced by quality approach into the production process. This research has for objective to propose a methodology to estimate and reduce the quality costs. Case Study's on continuous industrial process was chosen within the group OCP. In a first part, we put the problem by stating the art on the quality costs. We formulate two hypotheses allowing answering this problem. The second part, entitled "experiment" aims at validating our hypotheses on an industrial case. From the results of the experimental step, we conclude, in the third part by proposing an evaluation method and reduction of the costs of non quality directed to the processes.
