Etude et réalisation d'oscillateurs paramétriques optiques pour l'émission dans l'infrarouge

Abstract : The first part of this work deals with some theoretical elements of nonlinear optics relative to optical parametric oscillators in the nanosecond regime. After a short historical review on nonlinear optics, we give the propagation equations for three coupled waves in a non1inear medium, we expose the principles of birefringence phase matching and quasi-phase matching. Then we give analytical solutions to propagation equations for plane waves. We present the various second order parametric processes used to exploit the properties of nonlinear crystals. The second part presents the context of the study, which has been conducted within the context of a collaboration between Laboratoire Charles Fabry de l'Institut d'Optique and CILAS company. After establishing a state of the art on published experiments about the generation of wavelengths between 2 and 5 mM, we present the two configurations we've been studying. In the third part we expose the experiments we made on the first configuration using birefringence phase-matched crystals operating near degeneracy. It uses a KTP OPO followed by a ZGP OPO. We demonstrate for the first OPO the efficiency of using several KTP crystals, mounted in walk-off compensation. The efficiency from 1 mM to the idler wave, reaches 29 %. We use this OPO as a pumping source for a ZGP OPO, and this leads to an efficiency of 12 % from 1 mM to the 3-5 mM band. The fourth part concerns the second configuration, using two OPO in parallel, with quasi-phase matched crystals. We analyze the performances of PPKTP, PPLN and PPRTA OPO with low and high repetition rates.
